Bath Butter Bombs

Good morning Everyone,
Todays post aims  its focus on the magnificent bath butter bombs.
Primarily designed for the winter months rushing in, these bombs are the perfect treat for the skin.  As bath bombs they fizz in the hot water tub and disperse their goodness into the water.  Packed full of essential minerals and vitamins, the bath butter bombs will soften the water and revitalise and tone your skin.  With added Shea butter, the bombs will soften and smoothen your skin whilst moisturising and protecting it.  There is no need to moisturise your skin after soaking as the Shea butter will do the trick.

Shea butter is known for its amazing properties.  It is a butter that is easily absorbed by the skin and also creates that much needed protective layer.  It has natural sun protection properties and assists in the healing of small wound whilst reducing the appearance of scars and stretch marks.  Packed full of Vitamin E, it will assist your skin against wrinkle appearance by making the skin soft and flexible.  It is truly gods gift to Africa.  This amazing butter is extracted from the nuts of the Shea tree which grows only in Africa.  it is also used in hair products formulas for its conditioning properties, specially for dry and brittle hair.

Bath butter bombs are a must for relaxation.  Pop it in the bath and soak, soak, soak.  The scents will wrap you and the one exciting thing you can expect is that you're whole bathroom will be smell wonder full.  I made some this morning and my entire house is filled with this sweet rooibos and mandarine fragrance.  Here they are:

Rooibos and Mandarine Bath butter bombs.
Made with rooibos tea in them as well, these bombs are revitalising and nourishing for the skin.

These butter bombs are the ones that will be made on The Body Bar workshop on bath salts and butter bombs.  We will look at their purpose, how they are made and the benefits you can expect from them.  We will also make some for everyone participating, which of course, you get to keep.  You will then receive the bath butter bombs and bath salts manual.  It is a 2 hours workshop at R300.  The first workshop is on the morning of the 7th of April and the second workshop is on the afternoon/evening of the 14th of April.  Hope to see you there as I will be facilitating the workshop.  Both will be held in Westville.

Bath Salts

Good Morning Everyone,
I trust that you all had a wonderful weekend and that Monday morning brings a smile on your face!!!  I am so inspired at the moment, I can't wait for Monday...
Today's post will focus on bath salts.  Bath salts are used to mimic the properties of natural mineral baths or hot springs.  These therapies have multiple benefits for the body and are widely sought after for their natural calming properties.  Here are some of the benefits you can expect from bath salts, They:
1.  stimulate the immune system.
2.  increase blood circulation.
3.  help eliminate toxins and waste from the body.
4.  sedate the nervous system and relax muscles.
5.  help purify and tone the skin.
6.  promote the healing of wounds and reduce scar appearance.

Depending on their formula, different properties can be added to bath salts. Bath salts can also be used for foot soaks, which help detox and cleanse the feet.  They can also be used as exfoliants by gently massaging the skin in circular motion.

 Bath salts
On The Body Bar workshop on bath salts and bath bombs, we will look at how the bath salts work and the importance of each ingredient used within the Bath salts formula.  This specific workshop is designed to give you a clear understanding on both the products made on the workshop.  Everyone participating will make their own salts and receive The Body Bar manual on the topic of the day for reference.
You also get to keep the products you make.  It is a 2 hour workshop and costs R300.  The first workshop is on the morning of the 7th of April and the second workshop is on the afternoon/evening of the 14th of April.  Hope to see you there as I will be facilitating the workshop.  Both will be held in Westville.

Body Cream Workshops

Good Morning Everyone,

Today's post will focus on body creams.
As we all know, body creams and lotion, in this day and age, are essential to healthy, youthful skin.  They don't just moisturise and hydrate the skin but create a protective barrier over it.  This protective layer prevents dirt and many other particles from entering your pores, which could create various skin problems.  This helps you maintain a smooth skin and even skin tone whilst simultaneously keeping your skin full of the moisture it needs.
Our skin is exposed to so many factors that are detrimental to its health and the use of a moisturiser will definitely allow you to keep your skin at its best.
Now there are many different types of creams and lotions available commercially.  These will certainly do the trick momentarily but will cause issues in the longterm as many of the formulas contain ingredients that are not only unnecessary but also harmful.  It's a catch 22, protect your skin whilst harming it...  Makes me wonder!!!
The one true thing though is that unprotected skin is worse than those commercial products.
Whilst most commercial cosmetics manufacturers are concerned on costs and marketability, which of course is a serious factor, others just capitalise on the brand.  At the end of the day, what goes in the products is the same.  We all know that but we don't know what else to do.  Well honestly, I've also wondered what were my options and this engaged my search for a natural alternative.  After many a test, failure and success, frustration and absolute joy, I have found an alternative.  Tah Dah!!!
The Body Bar Natural Body Cream (Autumn)
This body cream contains Shea butter, Sweet Almond oil, Olive oil, Wheatgerm oil, Coconut oil, Aloe Vera gel and Vitamin E.  It is hydrating and leaves the skin feeling velvety, smooth and soft.
In this one cream, I've added a couple of drops of Cranberry and Vanilla Fragrance.  I just love the smell of berry-sweet things.

Now this is the formula that will be demonstrated and made on The Body Bar workshop on deodorants and body creams.  Like I mentioned yesterday, these 2 products form part of the same workshop.  The first session will focus on the creams and the second session will handle everything about deodorants.  This workshop lasts 3 hours and costs R400.  All participants will make the products and also get to keep them.  For reference, The Body Bar manual 3 will be given to you as well.  The first workshop is on the morning of the 6th of April and the second workshop is on the afternoon/evening of the 13th of April.  Hope to see you there as I will be facilitating the workshop.  Both will be held in Westville.

Natural Deodorants

Good Afternoon everyone,
Today is all about deodorants...
Here at The Body Bar, I believe that natural deodorants are so worth the time of the day as long as they work.  Having made a 100 tests on different formulas, I have come to fine tune this process.
First of all, deodorants are essential for hygienic purposes.
Commercially there are many types of deodorants and they all work in different ways.  I will not be discussing the good and the bad of these here today, all I know is that the ingredients used within these deodorants are not necessarily there to benefit our bodies.  Some of them are detrimental to our health  (even though they mask body odour) and the rest are cheap fillers, which I have no time for.

The Body Bar Natural deodorants are made with the very best ingredients, that will care for the sensitive skin on which they are used and will also obviously destroy the bacteria that thrive in our armpit environment and cause body odour.  All this is done safely with no health risk, skin damage or environmental damage.
These deodorants are effective for over 24 hours in hot and humid conditions.
I made a deodorant this morning for the blog:
1. All ingredients within the formula
weighed and ready to be melted
2. Ingredients melting in a double boiler
3. Ingredients completely melted and mixed
4. Additives are added
5.  Mixture poured in molds until solid

I really like deodorant blocks.  This format ensures easy application and stay on for longer.  This specific formula does not block your pores, which allows you to sweat.
Sweating is a normal function that serves to cool the body.  It also helps eliminate toxins from the body which when accumulated can lead to various problems.
Sweat itself is odourless but once exposed is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria due to various factors (more details on the workshops).  The bacteria is the cause of the odor and this is why we use deodorants.

More about The Body Bar deodorants on the 3rd workshop of the series.
Deodorants and body creams form part of the same workshops.  It is a 3 hours workshop at R400.  It is broken down into 2 sessions, the first being about body creams and the second about deodorants. The two products will be discussed, explained and made during this workshop. All participants will get to keep their products and will also receive the workshop 3 manual for reference.  The first workshop is on the morning of the 6th of April and the second workshop is on the afternoon/evening of the 13th of April.  Hope to see you there as I will be facilitating the workshop.
Both will be held in Westville.

Exfoliators Workshop

Good Afternoon Everyone,
Today my post will focus on Exfoliators (Scrubs).
I am sure all of you know the significance of using exfoliators.  They are the absolute must if you want your skin to be the healthiest it can be.  I started using scrubs a long time ago and after using so many different types of them, I can say for sure that the best I have used are natural.
Fine Sugar used as exfoliant
Commercial scrubs have so little abrasive material that a small difference can be noticed.  I never really experienced a proper scrub before using a natural scrub.  I knew exfoliation was very important but I never really felt a significant difference after scrubbing with commercial products. On the other hand, the first sugar based scrub I used made me understand thoroughly how important this process is.  It cleared my skin completely whilst moisturising it.  Its fundamental purpose is to free your skin of dead skin cells that lay at the surface of the skin.  The cells make the skin look dull and dry whilst possibly getting trapped within your pores, thus creating irregular skin surface.  A scrub will remove these dead skin cells, allowing the new vibrant skin to come through and breathe.  This process promotes the renewal of new skin cells, therefore keeping your skin young, healthy and vibrant.
With 3 years of natural scrub use, my skin is stronger, more flexible and is always glowing.  Of course the use of a moisturiser is vital, however moisturising skin that is not clear does not deliver the same outcome.
Left: Vanilla exfoliator with black poppy seeds,
Middle: Strawverry exfoliator with white poppy seeds
Right: Mango and orange exfoliator with red clay
With 3 years of research on exfoliators, I have designed The Body Bar Exfoliators Workshop.  As with the CP soap workshop, this one is also broken down into 2 sessions, the first one dealing with detailed information about product and the second one with the practical side of the process. It is a 2 hours session that costs R300. Everything is provided on site (raw-material and equipment).  Everyone participating will create their own exfoliator and of course will get to keep it.  You will also receive the Exfoliators manual for reference.  The first workshop is on the morning of the 5th of April and the second workshop is on the afternoon/evening of the 12th of April.  Hope to see you there as I will be facilitating the workshop.  Both will be held in Westville.

Cold Process Soap Making Workshop

Good Morning Everyone,
Today I am going to introduce you to the first workshop of The Body Bar Workshop Series.  Workshop 1 is about the making of Cold Process Soap (CP soap).  Like I mentioned yesterday, I was introduced to CP soap by my mom 3 years ago.  Initially I thought soap is soap, well it isn't.  Having spent half my life using shower gel, I thought nothing could be better.  I was wrong.  I felt a difference from the first use of my mom's beautifully handmade CP soap.
My mom's "Spice up your Life" CP soap I first used
The first thing that completely blew my mind is the scent.  A spicy and sweet blend of orange, clove, cinnamon and vanilla.  I was so used to commercial standard fragrances that this custom scent made me feel very very unique.  The second "Wow" was the lather produced by this solid bar of soap.  I'd never seen anything like this.  Thick, creamy, long lasting and abundant lather is what you can expect from a CP soap.  The third thing that amazed me is the fact that the lather rinses off very fast as opposed to the shower gel that seemed to want to cling to me and never let go.  The last thing that impressed me is that after my shower, my skin was not pulling and it felt perfectly moisturised, plus it smelt unbelievable.  I was sold!!!  The entire experience was memorable and for the next 10 days, my shower was an event.
Anyway, to cut a long story short, since, I've learnt to make CP soap and I have been experimenting with it for 3 years now.  I have compiled lots of information that will be delivered on the workshop.

Basically, The Body Bar Cold Process soap making workshop is a 4 hours workshop with 2 sessions.  The first session involves detailed explanation on the method of making the soap, safety instructions as well as some background information on soap itself, it's purpose and how to optimise the use of your soap.  The second session is all about designing and making the soap.  Everyone participating will make a bar of soap and of course will get to keep their creation.  You will then receive the CP soap making manual for reference. The cost of this workshop is R500.  The first workshop is on the morning of the 4th of April and the second workshop is on the afternoon/evening of the 11th of April.  Hope to see you there as I will be facilitating the workshop.  Both will be held in Westville.

Welcome to The Body Bar

It is with huge excitement that I engage this new adventure.  After 3 years of research, development and practical application, I feel ready and confident to take you on the journey with me and show you the ins and outs of natural cosmetics.
I was introduced to the vast and exciting world of natural cosmetics through my mom 3 years ago.  Since everything natural captures my attention, I engaged the natural cosmetic venture head first and I have never looked back.

This is me and my most precious Daxie
Initially I was creating basic things that I could personally use and very very quickly I realised that through this process I could express my artistic flair.  Natural cosmetics can be incredibly rewarding and creative.  I feel a sense of purpose through my creations and experience creativity beyond my expectations.  I create products that are adequate for my skin and most of all, I understand that cosmetics made using natural ingredients are the way things are meant to be.
After intense research and development, it is with jubilation that I introduce you to The Body Bar.
The Body Bar is a series of Workshops designed to show you how to make your own natural cosmetics.  Ranging from cold process soaps to deodorants, this comprehensive workshop series will teach you all you need to know about the products, their importance, how to make them and the benefits you can expect to gain from them.  We will discuss each product thoroughly and make each product which of course you get to take home with you.  Each product is made from scratch using only natural ingredients, no pre-made bases are used.
The Workshops are closely guided by me in order to ensure full understanding and successful results.  I will be holding classes in various formats to suit every lifestyle, making it easy for everyone to enter this venture with me.
I will soon post all the details about The Body Bar Workshop Series so make sure to pop by soon for more information.
